Former Missouri Senate President Tom Dempsey Starts Government Relations Firm, First Capitol Advisors
St. Charles, MO (September 21, 2020) – Tom Dempsey announces the start of his new company First Capitol Advisors, a firm providing lobbying services at the state and local levels. During his 17 years in public service and five years of government consulting, Tom has been recognized by his peers as a pragmatic, commonsense leader who builds consensus and gets results.
Dempsey served 15 years in the Missouri Legislature from 2000 to 2015, where he held posts as Majority Leader in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as the Missouri Senate President Pro-Tempore in his final three years in the General Assembly. During his tenure as Senate President Pro Tempore, the General Assembly adopted the first tax cut in 100 years, addressed the insolvency of the Worker’s Compensation Second Injury Fund, secured a major bonding bill to invest in higher education and workforce development, and handled the largest rewrite of the criminal code in 30 years. The Legislature also passed an initiative to increase transportation funding, two significant education reform bills to spur student achievement, and conducted a successful special session to attract a major economic development opportunity for the Aerospace Industry in St. Louis.
For the past five years, Tom has been a Partner at Gate Way Group, a multi-state lobbying firm, working for clients in energy, transportation, telecommunications, education, and economic development, and engaging with policy leaders at the local, state, and federal levels.
Bart Cooper, CEO of eHawk Solutions, said, “Tom is one of the most trusted and universally respected individuals with a reputation for rolling up his sleeves and working across party lines to reach common ground.”
“Tom is a problem solver that understands the process and knows what it takes to get your priorities across the finish line,” said Jon Robinson, Deputy Director of Government Affairs at K12.
On naming his new firm, Dempsey said, “I’ve always believed strongly in family and community. I was born and raised in St. Charles- home of the first state capitol- and our family’s business has been located on First Capitol Drive for 65 years. That’s why naming the company First Capitol Advisors seemed like such a natural fit. I was instructed at a young age to never forget who you are and where you’re from.”
First Capitol Advisors will utilize OPO Startups for meeting space on historic Main Street in St. Charles.
